The Left's Increasing Attack on Free Speech

Democrat officials and their media cohorts have upped their game on how they combat opposing voices. They have elevated it to a more Marxist approach and are unfazed if it goes against the foundation of what our country was built on.

Before, the left seemed content with simply smearing and discrediting their opposition: “he’s a conspiracy theorist,” “he’s a misogynist,” “he’s a bigot,” “he’s a racist” etc. etc. But they have so overused this tactic that it has become The Boy Who Cried Wolf. They needed to pivot to something more extreme to continue their ruse. If they label the speech itself as “misinformation” or “hate speech” then they can self-qualify eliminating or censoring that very speech. They can essentially nip it in the bud.

But what makes them the sole arbitrators of truth as if they are the Omnipotent One himself? What they say is hate speech may actually be a fundamental truth and just common sense like a man is a man and a woman is a woman. What they said about any discourse that questioned the efficacy and safety of the vaccine or any discourse that proposed a lab leak theory instead of the Wuhan market as spreading misinformation now seems to be the misinformation itself. But putting this aside, isn’t the essence of free speech being able to say and to hear all points of view whether you agree with it or not? Or as Elon Musk told Don Lemon: “Freedom of speech is only relevant when people you don’t like say things you don’t like. Otherwise it has no meaning.”

Democrats like Don Lemon who push for “moderating” free speech purportedly do so to protect the American people from “misinformation” and “hate speech.” But if they are truly operating on our behalf—want what is best for us—then shouldn’t they want us to hear all sides and be able to decide for ourselves? But this is not their intent. It’s not about us. It’s about them. It’s about pushing their point of view/agenda onto us and shutting down everything that goes against it. Lemon pushed for forced vaccinations and forced masking of kids and condemned anyone who disagreed as spreading misinformation and being a danger to society. Mark Zuckerberg killed the Hunter Biden laptop story after the FBI claimed it was “Russian Disinformation” and also censored COVID content, removing 20 million posts after pressure from the Biden administration. In the UK they are actually arresting people for social media posts they find offensive, racist, or inciteful. This should be a wake-up call for the slippery slope direction our country is headed in.
