American Pride v. LGTBQ Pride

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

The Left has so effectively monopolized the word Pride that many people are becoming accustomed to associating it directly with the LGBTQ movement. They have the whole month of June to promote their ideology and not surprisingly, the Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary, Rachel Levine, wants to expand it to the entire summer, which she calls the “Summer of Pride.” However, Texas Representative, Wesley Hunt, is fighting back by introducing a resolution that would make July a month to celebrate and commemorate our country, which he calls “American Pride Month.” The juxtaposition of these two Prides is a perfect example of how fundamentally different the Right and Left are, i.e., how we view this country; what we value; and what is important to us.

Have you ever seen a Rainbow Pride parade—the zeal and sheer exhibition? I wonder if any of the participants show the same passion on Veteran’s Day. And do we need the entire month of June or perhaps now the entire summer for LGBTQ to celebrate themselves and for others to sanctimoniously show their support? Meanwhile, we devote just one day here in America to commemorate our veterans and fallen heroes. This disparity really speaks volume of the movement itself, which has become increasingly more narcissistic, self-congratulatory, and radical. Their goal has expanded way beyond its original intent. It’s now about normalizing their agenda and forcing it on every day people in the most insidious ways: their acronym keeps growing in letters, they want to turn a month into a summer and soon the whole year, they put their mark on the can of what was America’s top selling beer, they fill stores like Target with “tuck friendly” wear, they force bakers to make something that violates their fundamental beliefs, they smear and shame athletes who don’t comply with wearing the rainbow flag, etc. etc. Some are now even openly chanting “We are coming for your children.”

On the other side, people like Wesley Hunt seek to introduce American Pride Month which would “bring American exceptionalism back into the spotlight and teach our children what it means to be an American.” The resolution also states its purpose is to “celebrate, memorialize, and increase awareness of the monumental achievements of the United States of America and the countless number of patriots throughout her history” and to “honor the fearless men and women who volunteered to serve this country in every conflict fought home and abroad since the founding of this Nation.” These are just a few examples of the resolution but it gives you an idea of what American Pride Month is about. It’s about paying tribute and showing appreciation. It’s about celebrating our country as opposed to celebrating one’s self. This Pride is rooted in gratitude as opposed to narcissism and self-righteousness.

To be clear, I have no issue with someone being L G B T or Q. I have multiple friends and co-workers who fit these letters who I greatly respect. It’s the normalization and radicalization of the movement itself that give me and others outside the community caution. Also, our country has made much progress that we don’t have to focus on LGBTQ Pride but instead start focusing on other types of pride like American Pride—to start shifting the zeitgeist of our country of celebrating all sorts of disparate minority groups to celebrating America; to be proud and grateful for living in the great country; to be proud and grateful for being an American regardless if you're black, white, yellow, straight, gay, etc.
